Founded from a problem that needed solving

ARK Therapeutic was founded by Debbie Lowsky, a speech-language pathologist who repeatedly encountered the same problem in her work: she needed effective tools to support oral sensory input and oral motor development, but the products she needed simply weren't available.

Rather than accepting that there wasn't a suitable solution, Debbie worked with her husband John, whose background in mechanical engineering brought a different set of skills to the problem. Together they began developing their own tools, later joined by their children Evan and Rebecca as the family business grew.

That combination of professional experience, engineering knowledge and lived family experience continues to influence the way ARK develops its products, with each solution created around a specific practical need rather than simply adding another product to the market.

Quality and functionality come first

Based in South Carolina, USA, ARK Therapeutic designs and manufactures its products in-house, using medical and food-grade materials, with a focus on durability, safety and practical everyday use.

The company has developed more than an astonishing 175 products, with its range now used in healthcare, education and therapy settings across more than 50 countries!

Its products support a wide variety of needs, including chewing, oral motor development, jaw and tongue strength, lip closure, articulation, sensory regulation and feeding skills such as drinking from cups and straws and using spoons.

Rather than creating products that are only useful within a therapy session, ARK focuses on tools that can become part of everyday life.

One of the things that makes ARK particularly interesting is the way it incorporates functionality into products that don't necessarily look like traditional therapy equipment.

The Z-Vibe®

One of ARK's best-known products is the Z-Vibe®, a handheld vibrating oral motor tool developed to provide sensory stimulation during speech and feeding therapy.

The tool can be used with a range of interchangeable tips and is designed to provide tactile and vibratory input to the mouth, supporting different aspects of oral motor and sensory work.

ARK says the Z-Vibe can be useful for individuals experiencing challenges including low oral tone, oral defensiveness and texture aversions, as well as supporting activities relating to speech and feeding.
